Prerequisites

Accessing ADP Workforce Now's API is not free.

To gain access, you will need to sign a statement of work, after which you will be assigned a representative from ADP to assist you with the setup.

This guide requires access to an ADP representative who can assist you in generating credentials.

Generating a certificate signing request

In addition to common client_id and client_secret credentials, ADP requires you to create a certificate for additional security.

Please follow ADP's guide describing the manual process of generating a certificate.

After finishing the guide, you should have access to a keyfile (.key).

Receiving the remaining credentials from ADP

After creating the keyfile, you must send it to ADP along with your requested application scopes.

  1. Copy the list of scopes as provided in the connection flow:

Note: The above-listed scopes are just an example. Please make sure you are sharing the scopes displayed in your own connection flow when sharing them with your representative.
  2. Send your ADP representative a message asking for the remaining credentials:

    Hey ______,

We are looking to set up an integration with ______ and would require your assistance in generating the remaining credentials.

I've attached the keyfile, would you please be able to provide us with the corresponding certificateclient_id, and client_secret?

We would require the following scopes:

[ENTER THE SCOPES FROM YOUR CONNECTION FLOW HERE]

  3. Once your representative responds, they should have shared the certificateclient_id, and client_secret with you. Paste them into the connection flow.

Note: If the certificate was shared with you as a file, you must open it in a text editor to copy the text into the connection flow.
