StaffCircle MCPx Setup Guide for Microsoft Copilot

Full instructions for your IT Support to setup StaffCircle CoPilot Agent in your Officer 365 to connect to StaffCircle MCPx

Overview

This guide walks you through the three stages required to connect a Microsoft Copilot Studio agent to the StaffCircle platform using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

1. Create and configure a Copilot Studio agent with the StaffCircle MCP Tool.

2. Publish the agent and deploy it to Microsoft Teams within your organisation.

3. Authenticate via the Connection Manager so users can access their StaffCircle data.

This guide is intended for IT administrators and Power Platform makers

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure the following are in place:

Requirement

Details

Microsoft 365 Account

Access to Copilot Studio (Power Platform environment)

StaffCircle Account

Admin permissions sufficient to authorise integrations

MCP Server URL (UK)

https://mcp.scp.staffcircle.net/mcp

MCP Server URL (US)

https://mcp.scp.staffcircle.us/mcp

💡 Authentication: OAuth 2.0 with Dynamic Discovery is used — you do not need to supply a Client ID or Client Secret manually. The server's well-known endpoint handles this automatically.

Section 1: Create a Copilot Studio Agent with the StaffCircle MCP Tool

1.1 Sign in to Copilot Studio

1

Navigate to Copilot Studio
Open your browser and go to https://copilotstudio.microsoft.com.
Sign in with your Microsoft 365 credentials.
Confirm you are in the correct Power Platform environment for your organisation — the active environment is displayed in the top-right corner of the screen.

1.2 Create a New Agent

2

Create a new agent
From the Copilot Studio home screen, click "Agents" in the left-hand navigation panel.
Select "Create blank agent".
Give your agent a meaningful name — for example: StaffCircle Assistant.
Click "Create" to continue.

1.3 Add the StaffCircle MCP Tool

3

Open the Tools section
Inside your newly created agent, click the "Tools" tab in the top navigation bar.
Click "+ Add a tool".

4

Select "Model Context Protocol"
In the tool picker dialog, scroll down or search for "Model Context Protocol".
Select it to open the MCP server configuration screen.

5

Enter the server details
Fill in the fields as follows:
Server Name: StaffCircle
Server Description: StaffCircle Platform Wide MCP – Grants insights and action capabilities
Server URL (UK): https://mcp.scp.staffcircle.net/mcp
Server URL (US): https://mcp.scp.staffcircle.us/mcp
Use the URL that matches the region where your StaffCircle account is hosted.

6

Set the authentication type
Under Authentication, select "OAuth 2.0".
Under Type, ensure "Dynamic Discovery" is selected (this is the default).
This tells the agent to automatically discover the OAuth 2.0 configuration from the server's well-known endpoint — no Client ID or Secret entry is required.

7

Save and connect the MCP tool
Click "Create" to save the MCP server configuration.
You will then need to create a connection. Click "Not connected", then "Create new connection", then "Create".
Sign in to your StaffCircle account in the pop-up window.
Once authenticated, click "Add and Configure" to attach the tool to your agent.

2.3 Distribute to Your Organisation

3

Make the agent available to your organisation
Go back into "Channels" and select "Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Teams".
The availability options will now be enabled.
Select "Show to everyone in my org" and then click "Submit to org Catalog".

4

Approve the app in the Teams Admin Centre
Log in to the Teams Admin Portal: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/
Navigate to Manage apps and search for your app by name (e.g. StaffCircle).
Click on the app and select "Publish" to approve it for your organisation.

5

Assign the app to users or groups
Under "Users and groups", click "Install app" to choose who should receive the app.
You can push the app to specific users, groups, or your entire organisation.

6

User installs the app in Microsoft Teams
Once published, users will see the StaffCircle app available in the Teams app store.
They can click "Add Apps" from the Teams sidebar, search for StaffCircle, and click "Add".

⏱ Please note: Publishing changes in Copilot Studio and the Teams Admin Centre can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate and appear in the Teams app store for all users.

Section 3: Authenticating via the Connection Manager

Each user must authenticate their own StaffCircle credentials before the agent can access their personal data. This is done through the Connection Manager, which is triggered automatically the first time a user messages the agent.

3.1 First-Time Authentication in Teams

1

Open the StaffCircle Agent in Teams
Navigate to the StaffCircle Assistant agent inside Microsoft Teams — you will find it in the sidebar or the Apps section.

2

Send a message to trigger the connection prompt
Type any message to the agent (for example: "Hello" or "What are my goals?").
Because this is the first time this account has used the agent, it will detect that no StaffCircle connection exists and will prompt you to connect.

Figure 10 – The connection prompt appears in the chat

3

Open the Connection Manager
A card will appear in the chat with an "Open connection manager" link.
Click the link to open the connection management page.
Click "Connect" and then "Submit".

4

Complete the OAuth 2.0 sign-in
Sign in to your StaffCircle account in the pop-up window using your usual credentials (email and password, or SSO if configured by your organisation).
Close the pop-up when prompted.

5

Confirm the connection is established
The Connection Manager will now show a "Connected" status.
You can close the page and return to Teams.
To verify everything is working, type "Who am I?" in the StaffCircle agent — it should respond with your StaffCircle profile details.
