Assigning a Skill to a Role
Assigning skills at a role level allows the individuals who are associated with role certain inherit these role-specific skills. This also helps to standardise the skill levels required for each skill associated with that role.
Step One
Navigate to the roles area of the platform by accessing the People module in Administration mode. Select the ROLES tab to open the list of roles used within your organisation.
🚀 If you are using our new menu feature, hover over the People section of the side-bar, then navigate to:
Configuration ➡️ Roles
Select the Roles title and proceed with step two.
Step Two
Select the role from the list to open the Role Details page.
Step Three
The SKILLS section can be see in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. This is where you can add (and remove) skills associated with a role.
Step Four
Click on the pencil icon next to the skills heading, this will open up the SELECT SKILLS pull-out drawer to the right.
Step Five
Activate the toggles associated with the skills you wish to assign to the role. Likewise, to remove an associated skill, switch the toggle 'off'.
Step Six
Once you have finished adding or removing skills for the role, click the SAVE button in the bottom right-hand corner of the drawer.
Step Seven
After the skills have been assigned to the role, you can then define the skill level for each skill. Click the '+ SET SKILL LEVEL' text underneath the title of the skill (see below).
Step Eight
Select the number of boxes to reflect the skill level out of four. For example, a Project Manager may wish to have a high skill level for the Project Management skill, so you may wish to set the skill level to three.
Defining the skill level at the Role level helps to create a benchmark for that skill's proficiency. This makes it easier to identify which employees are in surplus or deficit of an individual skill.
Employees which are associated with this role will now inherit these skills and skill level, however they will still need to be assigned at an individual level. For further guidance on assigning skills at an employee level, please refer to this guide.
